Protests are being held against Kamal Haasan in Karnataka after he said that Kannada originated from Tamil at the recent audio launch of ‘Taklife’. There are reports that the banners of the film ‘Taklife’ are being torn down and Kannada organizations are saying that they will not allow the release of ‘Taklife’ in any part of Karnataka, including Bangalore.
In this situation, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has condemned Kamal Haasan’s comment. “Kannada language has a long history, and Kamal Haasan knows nothing about it,” he said.
Karnataka state BJP president Yediyurappa also said on this, “One should love one’s mother tongue. But it is wrong to show arrogance in its name. Especially, artists should have a culture of respecting all languages. Kamal Haasan, who has acted in many Indian languages, including Kannada, has insulted Kannada to praise Tamil, which is the height of arrogance,” he said.
With Kamal Haasan facing strong opposition in Karnataka, it remains to be seen whether there will be any problems with the release of the film ‘Taklife’.
