My opinion was misunderstood - Kamal Haasan's letter on the Kannada language controversy

Following the controversy over the release of Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’ in Karnataka, he has written a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce. In it, he said,

“My comments have been misunderstood. I did not intend to belittle the Kannada language. The conversation was held with the understanding that we are all part of the same family.

My words about Sivarajkumar were out of affection. However, the fact that they were misunderstood and have become a problem for him deeply saddens me.

There is no doubt about the rich heritage of the Kannada language. I have never gone to belittle or insult Kannada.

Throughout my life, I have been grateful for the love and support I have received from the Kannada people. I understand the respect they give to their mother tongue. I never want to be a hindrance to public peace.” He said.

With the release of this letter, let’s wait and see whether the obstacles to the release of the film ‘Thug Life’ in Karnataka will be lifted.
