The Kongu Makkal Peramuna Party has said that it will not allow Kannada films to be screened in Tamil Nadu. In this regard, the party’s chief coordinator, C. Arumugam, has said in a statement:
Kannada organizations have protested that they will not allow the film ‘Thug Life’, which is being released in Karnataka and is being produced by veteran Tamil film actor Kamal Haasan.
Kannada organizations have been acting against the Tamil film industry on several occasions. Similarly, refusing to accept the historical truth that Kamal Haasan has now said that Kannada is a separate language from Tamil and opposing it is ignorance of the history of their language.
But at the same time, in response to their protest, we will not allow films starring leading Kannada film actors and actresses and produced by Kannada producers to be screened in Tamil Nadu cinema halls.
Beyond that, we will blockade and stop the cinema halls in Tamil Nadu in support of Kannada fanatics who insult Tamils, he said.
